A thermal anomaly affected several continents at once: France experienced the hottest May in its history, with nearly 2,000 temperature records broken; the United Kingdom recorded national temperature highs, while in China nighttime temperatures exceeded 30 °C for the first time. Against this backdrop, storm fronts with hail and hurricane-force winds affected many regions in Russia; a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred in Chile; and in Mexico, a 15-meter column of hot mud and steam erupted from underground.
At the same time, a six-meter ground collapse formed on a key highway in Costa Rica. Such synchrony of diverse phenomena — from atmospheric anomalies to tectonic and hydrothermal activity — indicates a reorganization of planetary processes. Chronicle of climate events and geophysical activity for the period May 25–31, 2026.

The presented events are part of a broader pattern of changes in the Earth’s climate system. The ocean, which for millions of years has functioned as a planetary thermoregulator, is now showing signs of disrupted heat exchange. Research points to a possible role of micro- and nanoplastics: these particles may affect the ocean’s ability to release heat into the atmosphere, creating a kind of “blanket” effect.
With increasing geodynamic activity, this may amplify the surface manifestations of the Earth’s internal energy — from seismic events to extreme weather phenomena. Understanding the physics of these processes is key to making sense of what is happening. These changes affect everyone, and a scientific approach to studying the planet is becoming a priority for society.
