OUR FAMILIES WERE LEFT UNDER THE RUBBLE ➤ TURKEY, FEBRUARY 2023, THROUGH THE EYES OF EYEWITNESSES

One night at 4:17 o'clock we woke up in horror with our children. It was a very severe earthquake. I still get goosebumps when remember it. Our children and I tried to save our lives. But where to run? - says an eyewitness to the earthquake from Turkey.

FEBRUARY 6, 2023.

TURKEY: Two powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 struck southeastern Turkey nine hours apart. More than 50,000 people were killed in Turkey as a result of the disasters. More than 230,000 buildings were destroyed or severely damaged.

It was a nightmare outside, everyone was trapped under the buildings after that apocalypse. The buildings had collapsed. Everything outside was in such a hell, everyone was screaming for help, who left their parents inside, not being able to get their children out all that time…

…the traffic was paralyzed, the road was blocked, so we couldn't go anywhere. When the traffic stopped in the middle of the road, everyone stayed where they were.

We were definitely not prepared.

The whole city was unprepared, I mean we didn’t know or prepare anything. The ground on which our houses were built is very soft. These were not earthquake resistant houses at all. Even recently constructed buildings were destroyed, even the buildings which were built only 2 years ago.

…our families and relatives were all trapped under the rubble. Families, as well as their children and spouses, were all under the rubble. But now everyone was worried about their own lives, everyone wanted to save their children. Those who took their children went away. Unfortunately, our beautiful country was destroyed. No stone was left unturned. Thousands of our children died.

Before the earthquake, we had houses, even two houses, furniture, cleaned up , cars, and beautiful life until the night before. But now, unfortunately, thousands of people are homeless, there are no workplaces, so I don't know how it will be from scratch, from the beginning again.
