Typhoon Rai eyewitnesses in the Philippines. Weather anomalies in the US. Floods → Iraq, Malaysia

26 December 2021

On December 16, 2021, Super Typhoon Paradise (known in the Philippines as Typhoon Odette) struck the Philippines.

It was one of the most powerful super typhoons ever recorded in the southern Philippines, and the sixth this year to reach Category 5.

Wind speeds reached 200 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 270 kilometers per hour. Unfortunately, the disaster took the lives of more than 350 people, about 500 people were injured. Dozens of others are still missing. In total, more than 700,000 people were affected.

See this week's edition for more on this and other climate incidents.

On December 17-19, heavy rains in Malaysia caused severe flooding. The depth of water on the streets of the affected cities in some places exceeded one meter. Sadly, there were deaths and missing persons. A total of about 67,000 people were evacuated.

At the same time, heavy rains in northern Iraq also caused devastating floods. Residents of the city of Erbil and nearby areas were affected. Sadly, lives were lost. There are people missing. The torrents of water were so strong that they swept away cars and destroyed homes and public facilities.

On December 15, 2021, many natural anomalies occurred in just one day in the southwestern United States:

Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa recorded abnormally high temperatures. Usually, the average temperature in December is around -2°C. This year at night the thermometers showed +12°C, and in some areas, the mark reached a record +21°C.

On December 15, 2021, an abnormal and historic derecho hit the southwestern United States and made its way inland. Hurricane-force winds of over 120 kilometers per hour brought torrential rain, dust storms, tornadoes, wildfires and snow squalls. Sadly, lives were lost.

A day earlier, a storm and heavy rains hit southern California, flooding the streets of Los Angeles.

At the same time, heavy snowfall hit the northern part of the state. In the Sierra Nevada, snowdrifts caused numerous traffic accidents.

An emergency situation was declared in the Sretensky district of Zabaikalsky region of the Russian Federation on December 18. Groundwater came to the surface and quickly froze due to severe frosts. Not only kilometers of roads were covered with ice, but also more than a hundred houses outside and inside.

On December 19, a terrible storm struck the state of New South Wales in Australia. It came out of nowhere. Sadly, several people were killed. Hurricane wind was enough only five minutes to destroy houses, fallen trees and poles of power lines.

The next day a powerful sandstorm hit Queensland. Winds with a speed of more than 100 kilometers per hour brought gigantic clouds of sand and dust to the city of Bulia.

From December 17 to 20, a strong winter storm Carmel brought heavy downpours and snowfall to Greece, Cyprus, Israel and even Egypt.

What seemed like climatic disasters a few years ago has now become the norm. And the climate every month presents us with new records. This is no coincidence, natural disasters continue to escalate.

All people need to know the truth. Only in this way can we change the situation and realize the full human potential to build a Creative Society and save everyone's life.

Only a creative format will give incredible opportunities for the favorable development of society and the planet as a whole.
