In the place of the largest freshwater reservoir in the country, Lake Poyankhoo, all that can be seen now are huge sand fields and small streams. They have created patterns on the muddy shoals, which the Chinese media have called the "Earth Tree," marking the state of the lake as a warning of a dangerous future due to increased extreme weather events.
☀️ CHINA, CHONGQING: 51 RIVERS AND 24 RESERVOIRS HAVE DRIED UP
Severe lowering of the water level in the Chongqing municipality led to a previously flooded island and three Buddhist statues, believed to be 600 years old, becoming visible above the water.
An unprecedented drought and abnormal heat in the same region caused numerous forest fires. Evacuations were carried out in the most affected areas.
