NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA.
Torrential rains continue to pound the east coast of Australia. Tens of thousands of people have been displaced by the massive flooding.
In many parts of New South Wales the rainfall was half the annual average in Sydney. Rivers spilled over, blocking many bridges and disrupting transport.
Eyewitnesses described the swiftness of the catastrophe - only the roar of the elements alerted them. Forecasting systems have once again proved their inadequacy.
There must be a single, global emergency service, a very rapid response, which will allow to competently coordinate specialists and quickly dispatch the necessary equipment to save billions of lives!
