📈 Seismic activity in FEBRUARY 2023 continued its upward trend. This month we witnessed earthquakes of magnitude not only above 6, but also greater than 7. Such, for example, was not recorded in February last year.

FEBRUARY 6, 2023

💥 UNITED STATES: The strongest earthquake in the last 40 years happened in NEW YORK STATE, near BUFFALO. Its magnitude was 3.8. The tremors were felt from Niagara Falls in the north to Orchard Park in the south. On the magnitude scale, 3.8 is small. But the peculiarity of the Earth's crust in this area is such that the efficiency of seismic wave transport compared to sedimentary areas is higher, so the vibrations were felt much stronger.

It was like an explosion. It was really scary. so, I thought maybe a truck exploded or maybe there was a house exploding nearby. It was really frightening!

The whole building shook. It scared the hell out of me, you know, it was real nasty, real loud bang and then the building started shaking, it was crazy, honestly it was real crazy did you!

🆘 TÜRKIYE: On the same day, the great natural disasters began to hit Türkiye, demonstrating conclusively the fragility of our calm well-being in the face of cataclysmic events. 💥 TAJIKISTAN: According to the Chinese seismological center, on February 23 a magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred in Tajikistan on the border with China.

Earthquakes of magnitude 6 and higher were also registered during the month in PAPUA NEW GUINEA, INDONESIA, NEW ZEALAND, JAPAN and the PHILIPPINES.

Volcanic activity is inextricably linked to seismic activity. More than 40 volcanoes were active in February. Among them: Sakurajima in Japan, Ebeko in the Kuril Islands and Kilauea in Hawaii, Karangetang and Merapi in Indonesia, Popocatepetl in Mexico, Villarrica in Chile and Cotopaxi in Ecuador.

So far, most of the potentially dangerous seismic events occur far away from populated areas, often in the ocean.

The reality is that humanity is divided into two unequal parts. One, an extremely small one, has usurped the latest technologies for saving people and offers to buy them at a fabulous price for its own enrichment. The other surpasses the first by billions of times, but takes this state of affairs for granted and remains cowardly silent.

⚠️ All lives lost are the responsibility of every human being.

It was we who created a society in which, in the twenty-first century, earthquake survivors are searched for with dogs and dismantled ruined buildings by hand. Diplomatic, political conventions, lack of joint logistics, complicated rules have led us to the fact that today there is no effective interaction between emergency services in the world.
