Representatives of the Creative Society project and the ALLATRA International Public Movement participated in the Vienna conference “UN – 80 Years for Peace, Future Perspectives”

Vienna, September 19, 2025. — Representatives of the Creative Society project and the ALLATRA International Public Movement took part in the international conference “UN – 80 Years for Peace, Future Perspectives”, held at the Vienna International Centre. The forum brought together diplomats, UN officials, academics, NGOs, and civil society representatives to mark the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and to discuss prospects for strengthening peace and sustainable development worldwide.

The opening ceremony was dedicated to peace and international solidarity. A welcome address was delivered by Peter Haider, Chairman of the Vienna NGO Committee on Peace. Messages of peace were shared by Rebecca Jovin, Head of the Vienna Office of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, as well as by Ambassadors of UN Member States. The musical performances created a friendly atmosphere, and the symbolic ringing of the Peace Bell at the Memorial Square reminded participants of their shared responsibility for maintaining peace.

During the panel discussion, leading international experts shared their perspectives on global cooperation in the face of current challenges, including:

  • Jean-Luc Lemahieu – Visiting lecturer on international relations, Member of the Advisory Board of the Syracuse Institute, and former Director of Policy Analysis and Public Information at UNODC.
  • Verena Winiwarter – Professor of Environmental History at the Institute of Social Ecology, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna; Chair of the Commission for Interdisciplinary Ecological Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences; named “Scientist of the Year 2013” in Austria.
  • Heather Vokus – Founder of blockhub.care, Executive Director of SDG2030.me, developer of educational and peacebuilding technologies for humanitarian cooperation.
  • Anastasia Yatskova – Founder and Program Director of Earth Charter Austria, a global initiative promoting a just, sustainable, and peaceful future.

Speakers highlighted the role of international cooperation in maintaining global security, the need to strengthen climate resilience and ecological awareness, and the importance of education and digital innovation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Representatives of the Creative Society and ALLATRA actively contributed to the dialogue, emphasizing the importance of intercultural exchange and the integration of environmental issues into peacebuilding strategies. They noted that combining scientific knowledge, diplomacy, and social initiatives is essential for effectively addressing global challenges and protecting human rights.

The participants also stressed the importance of raising public awareness and engaging young people in international cooperation. Creating platforms for dialogue, disseminating knowledge about global processes, and supporting civil society initiatives play a key role in fostering a culture of peace. NGOs were highlighted as a vital link between civil society and international institutions, contributing fresh ideas, mobilizing communities, and strengthening diplomatic efforts.

The conference reaffirmed that building a sustainable peace is possible only through mutual respect, shared responsibility, and the active involvement of all sectors of society.
