🌊 AUG. 8, 2022
SOUTH KOREA, record rains have hit the nation's capital, Seoul, causing flooding in various areas of the metropolis.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, 380 mm of rain fell. This is the highest amount ever recorded in Seoul. And in just one hour, the amount of precipitation reached more than half of the monthly norm.
Such torrential downpours turned streets into rivers, flooding subway stations and paralyzing traffic. People had to cross streets up to their waists in water, sometimes swimming, while others were trapped in buildings or trapped in their cars. Residents in low-lying areas were urged to evacuate to safer places.
☝️ It is critical today to use an interdisciplinary approach by the entire scientific community to examine the causes of what is happening to the climate and to implement technologies that will help save lives and the life of our planet. 🌎
